Background

Brooklyn native and Los Angeles transplant (by way of London), The Angel has established a unique voice as a woman in a male dominated industry, combining her skills as a record producer and composer. Critically acclaimed for pioneering an eclectic sound that is both urban and electronic, The Angel has had the opportunity to incorporate many diverse flavors into her records as well as TV and film compositions. She is known for blending musical genres with a healthy dose of irreverence, using both traditional and more contemporary instrumentation. Featured on the cover of the LA Weekly, The Angel was described as “fiercely independent” as she has worked outside the system creatively, while establishing herself as a trendsetter within the mainstream.

Having acquired technical expertise in programming and engineering early on in her career, Angel put her skills to work, self-producing, writing and programming her first album for Delicious Vinyl in 1993. This record brought her to Los Angeles from her adopted home in London, where she was quickly drawn into remixing fellow artists, The Pharcyde, The Brand New Heavies and Spearhead. Since then Angel has written and produced artist albums under three monikers; The Angel, 60 Channels and Jaz Klash and has dj’d and performed at diverse high profile events throughout N. America including Coachella, The Montreal Jazz Festival and The Winter Music Conference.

In 1997, Angel was introduced to the producers of “Gridlock’d” (Tim Roth / Tupac) for her first scoring opportunity. The jazzy but contemporary flavor of her remix of Donald Byrd’s “Kofi,” (Blue Note) was the thing that first caught director, Vondie Curtis-Hall’s ear. Since then, Angel has scored diverse international film and television projects like New Line Cinema’s “Boiler Room” (Giovanni Ribisi, Ben Afffleck, Vin Diesel), the cutting edge and provocative hit UK feature, “KiDULTHOOD,” (Noel Clarke), the Miramax documentary, “The Heart of The Game”, the Fox procedural drama, “Standoff” (Ron Livingston, Rosemarie DeWitt) and the Lifetime original movie, “Racing For Time” (Charles Dutton) among others.

Currently based in Los Angeles, Angel has established a music production company (Devilishly Good Productions), record label (Supa Crucial Recordings) and publishing company (Supa Crucial Music), as she continues to produce cutting edge records that span the electronic genre; downtempo, hip hop, drum ‘n bass and dubstep. Much of her catalogue has been used in films, and the TV shows “24”, “True Blood” and “The Wire” to name a few. She has mentored and nurtured the career of Grammy Nominee, Mystic, producing Mystic’s first single, “OK… Alright” and was instrumental in getting Mystic signed to her first record deal. Angel continues to collaborate with Mystic and has licensed songs featuring Mystic, like “Destiny Complete” to film and TV as well as “Believe It”, written and produced as an end title song for the film, “The Heart Of The Game”. Angel has also produced songs for Tre Hardson (The Pharcyde), Monday Michiru, and recently collaborated with long time friend and colleague, Jhelisa producing The Angel’s current single, “Ultra Light”.

The Angel recently completed scoring the films; “Gaia”, currently winning awards on the festival circuit; an emotional, stunning art house film with an organic semi acoustic feel, and the character study “Bedrooms”, (Moon Bloodgood, Julie Benz), which recently premiered at the Los Angeles Latino Film Festival winning an honorable mention for best directing for the film’s three directors; Youssef Delara, Michale D. Olmos and Victor Teran. Angel has also just completed scoring the second season of the Jada Pinkett-Smith hospital drama, “HawthoRNe” (TNT).

The Angel is completing a brand new artist album, “Xtra Sensory Goodness,” a dubscape cinematic journey, set for release later this year.
