HEIST 88 – Latest Film Score by The Angel on Paramount+ and Showtime

My latest film, HEIST 88 is coming to Paramount+ 9/29 with a linear debut on SHOWTIME Sunday 10/1. HEIST 88, loosely based on one of the biggest bank heists in US history, centers on Jeremy Horne played by Courtney B. Vance. Jeremy is masterful at enticing four non criminals including his nephew (a house music producer and label owner) and his friends, three young bank employees, to go in with him on a big money scheme. The film, written and produced by Dwayne Johnson-Cochran, is an intriguing, intense ride set in 1988 at the height of the Chicago house music scene, with a strong ensemble cast including Keith David, Keesha Sharp, Nican Robinson, Bentley Green, Precious Way and Xavier Clyde. I’ve had the pleasure of scoring five projects for director Menhaj Huda, since our first collaboration on the UK cult hit, KiDULTHOOD. For HEIST 88, Menhaj had me tap into the sounds of 80’s club music for a driving, thematic score. Each performance from the film’s young ensemble, evoked empathy and as I found myself rooting for them, I loved creating their themes using a mix of electronic instrumentation with minimal traditional instruments. Courtney’s performance as Jeremy Horne, inspired me to play the nuance and sophistication of his character.  We are often in Jeremy’s head as he orchestrates a non-stop game of three dimensional chess… so at times, it almost felt like I was one of the pieces on his board, making my sonic moves to compliment his cryptic ones… and it was an enigmatic world to be in.
