18 Jan 2026 The Angel – Velvet Vision: The Story of James Bidgood and the Making of Pink Narcissus (Original Motion Picture Score) Release
The loungecore, ambient/fantasy film score for documentary, “Velvet Vision: The Story of James Bidgood and the Making of Pink Narcissus,” by The Angel, is released January 30th, 2026. You can preview, stream and buy the album here.
With sweeping themes like, “That’s What Art Is,” a melange of electronic textures, horns and synthetic strings, or the pulsating four-on-the-floor, “It’s Electrical,” to accompany one of the happiest chapters of Jim’s life, The Angel’s score deftly narrates the story of a groundbreaking artist and the crises he endured.
Highlighting Bidgood’s larger-than-life, technicolor fantasies from the sixties to the 2000s, Angel imbues her score with hints of loungecore and acid jazz. Each unique piece conjures up an evocative and emotional turn in the life of James Bidgood from the playful, “It’s Really Gonna Happen” and “Exploring New Depths,” to the tragic, “Utopia Or Oblivion.” Angel’s score carries us through Jim’s trippy highs and lows, from the depths of his madness to the heights of his incredible artistry, always honoring his well earned legacy.
About the film: ‘Directed by Bart Everly, “Velvet Vision” is not just a documentary about an artist; it’s about the cost of beauty, the endurance of vision, and the creative madness that sustains it. Honest, defiant and deeply human.’ ~ Revelation Perth International Film Festival
The film began its worldwide festival run, accruing nominations and awards in 2025 and continuing with a 2026 Northeast premiere at Dances With Films New York on Jan 15th. It is often programmed as a double bill with James Bidgood’s legendary, 60s arthouse film, “Pink Narcissus,” “a kaleidoscopic fever dream of queer desire,” recently restored by UCLA and back in theaters for the first time in fifty-four years!
