For my interview with Gemma Dempsey for the "Composers On Film" podcast, it was a real pleasure to dig into some of my all time favorite tracks by Isaac Hayes, Sergio Mendes and Brasil '66, Public Enemy, composer Jeremy Sams and Milton Nascimento, as well as an eclectic sampling of my film and TV score....
Devilishly Good Productions is a music production company based in Los Angeles, providing original music for film, television and advertising, known for the ground breaking work of its creative driving force, record producer and composer, The Angel.
The Angel launched her career as a self-produced recording artist with Los Angeles based record label, Delicious Vinyl (The Pharcyde, Tone Loc, The Brand New Heavies). Subsequently setting up her own record label, Supa Crucial Recordings, Angel has brought her signature sound to remixes and record productions for Bay Area, Grammy nominee Mystic, Tre Hardson, The Pharcyde, Spearhead and Donald Byrd among others.
The Angel broke out of the confines of the song format and into film composing with the genre defining scores for the features, BOILER ROOM (Giovanni Ribisi, Vin Diesel) and KiDULTHOOD (Noel Clarke, Aml Ameen), and later marked television milestones for a female composer, scoring the Fox network FBI drama, STANDOFF (Ron Livingston, Rosemarie DeWitt), TNT’s Jada Pinkett Smith medical drama series, HAWTHORNE and Ava DuVernay’s CBS DOJ themed pilot, FOR JUSTICE among others. See The Angel’s full credits here IMDb.
Angel is a supporter of up and coming women creatives and has recently scored and produced several projects helmed by first time women directors and/or producers. These include the feature documentary, BORN TO LEAD: THE SAL AUNESE STORY (directed by Lara Slife) as well as the award winning short films, BOMBS BURSTING IN AIR (directed by Lidiya Korotko) and SYNTH (produced by Lara Heller) currently in film festivals.
Devilishly Good Productions has also expanded into development with a number of drama projects for film and TV in the works.
